Milk and Honey Composting Project United Methodist Church

Palm Springs, CA

In May 2023, with the support and dedication of Desert Compost, the “Milk & Honey” Compost project started with building  the first bin of post consumer product (aka organics such as food scraps and coffee grounds) from the United Methodist Feeding Ministry.   Since that time, the project has has rolled out Stage Two, where the congregation uses a “honey bucket” to contribute product to the compost production.   Now, not only do they have congregation contributions, they also receive filled buckets from community volunteers and neighbors. The Milk and Honey Project has turned food scraps into nutrient rich compost which not only reduces the production of methane gas that is released into the air, but also creates a wonderful growing environment for plants.  The project is now installing a food access garden to close the food loop.
